Greg's Research

Working toward completing the EdD research dissertation has many associated milestones.  At this time, I have successfully refined my research topic, gained approval from the Department of Research Ethics, and have secured assistance from the VP Academic at SFU for distribution of recruitment letters to new faculty.

The pages in the Research section of my portfolio provide an overview and detailed view of my proposed study.  Given that I have yet to begin the research phase of this study, I expect to encounter many unexpected elements and learning curves throughout the process.  Some questions I have at this point are:

    • How can a researcher fully suspend personal biases to completely engage with phenomenological research?
    • What is the cross-over or commonality in relationship between:
      • Phenomenology - personal perceptions of 'real'
      • Ontology - that which is 'real'
      • Epistemology - how we construct our knowledge
    • How ought a PI conduct interviews to garner most honest and 'real' responses in a loosely structured interview?  With my personal strengths and weaknesses, how ought I carry out this process?
    • How might I 'limit' the data and conversation appropriately when understanding a participant's life-world within the study context is desired?  Just by merit of phenomenology, do we not want to ascertain clarity within the participant's personal perspective?  How is this possible within limits?
